About Us
AlpacaJoy of Maryland is located midway between Baltimore and Washington DC in Howard County Maryland.

One if us fell in love with alpacas after seeing a picture in a magazine. We debated long and hard about what we would have to give up to have these wonderful creatures in my daily life. We brought our first alpacas home on an emergency basis (for home nursing care) before we were set up properly and have spent the time since making a peaceful place for them to live. They have taken over (most of) our hearts and (all of) our lives, one by one  as they arrive, and I have been blessed beyond measure by their presence. The other one of us has been relieved by the tax break afforded by alpaca ownership.

Our Goal
We feel that females are less stressed when the breeding occurs in familiar surroundings. Females have to adjust to many different situations throughout their breeding life depending on the bloodlines desired by their owner. Mobile breedings seem to us to be less stressful for the female.
We also have found it difficult to part with our new cria when the dam is sent out for breeding so soon after the birth and try to arrange mobile breedings for our females whenever possible.
We knew from the start that we would have difficulty parting with any animal we raise so a stud farm became the best working solution for us.
We are interested in keeping our herd numbers relatively small at this point in time. To this end we are attempting to acquire the most sought after bloodlines in our males while maintaining only a few females. We are slowly diversifying our herd and have added a light silver gray, Shaquille's Millicent, to our herd.

Milli has been bred to AL Paca's Revolution for a fall 2008 cria
